Our Help-a-Child program matches a sponsor with a child in need of school supplies, warm winter clothing and summer camp gear.
School Supply Elves
Buying school supplies can be a hardship for many of our families. SPRING School Supply Elves provide children with all the required supplies for the start of the school year.
Through the Free & Reduced Lunch Program children receive breakfast and lunch at school, but no snack. SPRING Snack Fairies fill in this crucial gap, providing daily healthy snacks for children who need them.
Run in collaboration with Cabrini Immigrant Services and volunteers from The Masters School and Dobbs Ferry High School, students who are part of the English Language Learning (ELL) Program receive homework help and coaching 3 days a week during the school year. Additional SPRING Homework Helpers provide 1:1 tutoring when needed.
SPRING coordinates with Dobbs Ferry Parks and Recreation Dept., Dobbs Ferry Youth Services Council, RiverArts, and other local organizations and individuals to send children to camp.
The Musical Muses program matches sponsors with children who would like to take musical instrument lessons at school but who cannot pay for the instrument rental fee.
Nursery School Scholarships
Working together with local nursery schools, who offer a discounted tuition rate, SPRING provides partial scholarships to Dobbs Ferry children so that they can attend high-quality preschool before entering kindergarten.
Bridging the Digital Divide
Although computers are playing a growing role in our kids' educational lives, there are families in Dobbs Ferry who do not have a computer or internet access at home. SPRING places donated, refurbished computer equipment in the homes of local families and helps pay for internet access.
SPRING works with local organizations to help students participate in after-school enrichment programs such as Boy and Girl Scouts of America, Dobbs Ferry Youth Little League, and Rivertowns United Soccer and Dobbs Ferry Youth Football.
SPRING helps local families meet their food needs by distributing gift cards for the local Stop & Shop as needed, partnering with Family-to-Family to provide a monthly food box to several Dobbs Ferry families, and helping to stock the Dobbs Ferry food closet with donations collected from Springhurst's "Kids Can!" program.
Twice per year - once in the late fall and once in spring - SPRING sets up a clothing "boutique" of donated clothing. Children can come to the boutique with their parents and "shop" for clothing, including winter coats and shoes.
"In Our Backyard Outstanding Service Awards," for demonstrated dedication and initiative to local service and advocacy for the vunerable and disenfranchised, particularly children, "in our backyard." "SPRINGboard Award," for a graduating senior who has met challenges, worked hard and perservered to achieve his/her goal of pursuing post-secondary education.
